Join Alleluia Panis for a rare opportunity to learn movement shaped by over 50 years of professional dance experience, drawing from her roots in western modern dance training and movement informed by traditional dance aesthetics through her work with various indigenous communities across the Philippines.
As the founder of Alleluia Panis Dance Theater, a program of KULARTS, where she currently serves as Executive Artistic Director, Panis has created over 20 full-length dance theater works since 1985.
Her choreography has been recognized with awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, SF Arts Commision, MAP Fund, and Creative Work Fund. Her work has been presented on tour at Dance Theater Workshop, Lincoln Center-NY, and Kennedy Center-WADC, Guadalupe Arts Center-San Antonio and at various festivals including Singapore Arts-Singapore, Verona Jazz-Italy, CanAsian Dance-Canada, Bumpershoot-Seattle, among others.
She was awarded the prestigious SFAC Artist Legacy, Gerbode Special Artist Award, Dance USA Artist Fellow, and Hewlett 50 Arts Commission. She was a board member of Brava! For Women in the Arts, Bay Area Dance Coalition, artist’s committee member of National Performance Network, and juror for Ethnic Dance Festival. She received the California Arts Council Choreographer Award, Dancers Group’s Dancers Choice Award and was a fellow at the James P. Shannon Leadership Institute and at Rockwood Leadership Institute.
Her twenty years of performance experience includes Ed Mock West Coast Dancers, San Francisco Opera Ballet, Philippine Dance Company of New York, Fred Ho’s Asian American Art Ensemble of New York, Bagong Diwa Dance Company, Purple Moon Dance Performances, Unbound Spirit, Asian American Dance Collective, SF Kulintang Ensemble, Kalilang Kulintang Music & Dance Ensemble, Kulintang Arts Ensemble, soloist for the three SF Ethnic Dance Festivals, among others.
